March 2014   Eduardo Cardoso

"This album is somewhat conceptual. It's a story of someone who goes on an underground journey. During this journey, the individual finds a mystical mythological being (of my imagination) which is a stone serpent (A Serpente De Pedra). Finally the individual passes through the serpent and finds the Axis Mvndi ... the world axis. A mountain as high as any in the Himalayas. This is why the album is called Martírio Sub Solum ... because the person is a martyr in an underground world, enduring a harsh path to reach a rewarding goal or illumination."

Born in Seoul, Korea, Chaewon decided after graduating from Seoul Arts High School to attend the University of Wisconsin in the U.S. where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (emphasis in painting and drawing) in 2000.

After graduation, Chaewon spent several years focused on painting, eventually becoming interested in creating collages using various mediums.

"Being open to various materials has given me a chance to create new styles and unique works of art."

"I am surrounded by fluidity such as death, time, memory, void and anxiety. I am not trying to find answers here. I only want to heal myself in time and by piling up my life stories, I want to get close to my genuine self which hides deep inside of me."
